IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT FLIGHT SIMULATOR IS BEING RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

If you already have the below freeware products (inc. configuration tool) installed please do not re-download and install them. Please read the less cluttered FSInn & Copilot Installation instructions.

Software

You will need to download and install the following software in the order listed.

Basic Setup

FSCopliot When installing FSCopilot, all you need to do is click next as there are no options that specifically need selecting.

FSInn When you get to the page which asks you to select networks, please make sure all check box's are left blank. Once you click next it will prompt you to enter a callsign, this can be edited when in flight sim. When you are prompted to enter a VATSIM ID & Password, you LEAVE this blank as they are not your Virtual Skies CID & Password.

TeamSpeak RC2 When installing TeamSpeak RC2, all you need to do is click next as there are no options that specifically need selecting.

Virtual Skies FSInn Configuration Tool The FSC is easy to install, on the second page of the installer you will be prompted to enter your CID and Password then click next. Once the installer has completed you will be ready to connect!

How to connect to the network

  1. Start up flight simulator
  2. Click Addons -> FSInn -> Inn Control Panel (For FSX)
  3. Click Copilot -> Inn Control Panel (For FS9)
  4. Click the button on the left next to where it says "Virtual Skies"

Configuring Sound (TT/Push To Talk)

While running Flight Simlator, bring up the FSFDT Control Panel. It’s the icon in the systemtray that looks like a traffic light sign.

Make sure that the checkbox saying 'TeamSpeak is enabled on this computer' is checked.

Click on Voice -> TEAMSPEAK (Choose your sound devices) -> Click on Volumes -> (Insure Sliders are to the right for more volume) Click on Key mappings -> (Choose your PTT for keyboard [and or joystick button] and TS PTT button. The default user preference is CAPSLOCK for the keyboard mappings.)

With this I was fully up and running in minutes with voice configured. On the next session with just a single click on the VirtualSkies button I was connected and flying online.

Trouble Shooting

Firewall/Antivirus

The most common problem that can occur after this simple installation is having a third party firewall block access. If you have problems, check the program control of your firewall program and give full access to the three modules:

  • FSFDTCP.exe
  • FSInnUI.exe
  • FWINN.exe

The Text Chat Error (and other .ocx errors)

When running the text chat the first time it might give an error. You can fix this by running FSInnUI (the Inn Control Panel) once from the Start Menu and clicking on Chat. (For Vista right click to run as administrator.)

Changing Versions

Be sure to do a full uninstall of FSCopilot/FSInn when changing versions

FSX - Seeing AI (and hearing FSX’s ATC) when on Virtual Skies

To avoid the confusion of having FSX's AI and ATC popup when on Virtual Skies move the traffic sliders all the way to the left.

Weather Bug in FSInn/FSX (affects Speeds, Temperatures, and Climb [above FL245])

This is an issue with FSX/Simconnect/weather. When flying at high altitudes (above FL245) there’s a miscommunication between FSX and FSInn concerning the temperature. This TAT problem isn’t experienced when flying below FL245.

A workaround is to turn off FSInn’s weather when flying above FL245 and use an alternate such as FSX’s weather. (Inn Control Panel -> Set -> Weather [Check/Uncheck])
